Service Description

JONI MITCHELL’s 1966 hit song “Both Sides Now,” was the first of her many chart-topping hits, and has now been recorded by more than 1,700 artists. But fans might not know that Joni’s style is jazz! The finest jazz musicians lined up to perform and record with the 11-time Grammy winner: Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus, and many more. In 2015, news was announced that “folk singer” Joni Mitchell suffered a brain aneurysm. Longtime fan, Leslie Ballard, determined to demonstrate Joni’s jazz routes, formed Joni Mitchell’s Jazz, with a group of gifted musicians, and sold-out their very first performance. During her 30 years in New York City, Leslie regularly performed with a wide range of musical styles: including the Amato Opera, Jerriese Johnson Gospel Choir, Wexford Gaelic Trio, and backing vocals on albums. With song videos and narration, these top-flight musicians play Joni’s most beloved songs, as she recorded them. Joni Mitchells’ Jazz: Leslie Ballard, lead vocal and flute; Christian Martirano, keyboards (musical director, composer, sound designer); Tony DePaolo, guitar (artist-in-residence at the Empire State Building, NYC); Steven Moran, sax (music educator, Director US Navy Band, Ret.); Corky Ballard, bass (multi-instrumentalist, owner Voices Studio); and Tony Traina, drums (Tony T Orchestra, and countless Broadway shows).
